Restaurant | Commercial Dish Washing

Running out of hot water at your busiest and most critical time can cause your dish machine to be RED TAGGED and bring your restaurant operations to a halt. Switching to a larger tank heater might be the solution, but then again space is an issue. The solution has been to use a traditional booster tank heater ranging in price from $1,200 - $6,000 with a limited storage capacity of 6-16 gallons.

ECOSMART Self Modulating Technology allows all our models to be used for this type booster application by determining the correct amount of power to be drawn and pre heat the water going into the existing tank heater by measuring incoming water temperature and flow rate.

How It Works

ECOSMART electric tankless water heaters can be used as a booster by connecting the incoming city water to the boosters inlet and connecting the boosters outlet to the tanks inlet water connection.

You set the digital control temperature on the booster to 150°F (65°C) so as you demand hot water at your dish machine or washing stations the inlet water flows through the booster unit pre-heating it into the tank. This process ensures you have unlimited hot water and reduces your hot water heating cost by eliminating the need for your tank heater to consume energy to heat the incoming city water temperature. In addition it reduces your heat loss factor and cost by delivering a higher inlet water temperature to that of your tank thermostat setting.

Example

You have your tank thermostat set at 140°F (60°C) and the booster at 150°F (65°C) as you demand hot water from your tank the city water passes through the booster and introduces the pre heated city water to your existing tank heater at 160°F consuming only the energy that it needs based on flow rate.

Let’s assume you are using 4 gallons of hot water at your sinks and mixing cold water to avoid scalding, so the hot water draw is that of 2 gpm and your inlet city water temperature is 65°F (18°C). The booster will consume 24-25 kW and deliver into your tank heater hot water at 150° (65°C). Same is the case when using say 2 gpm and your hot water draw is that of 1 gpm, then the booster would only consume 12 kW.

Because you are pre heating the incoming water to your existing tank heater and not loosing heat , your tank heater will consume no energy and because the water is pre heated at a higher temperature than that of your tank heaters thermostat setting Heat Loss will occur less often, thereby given you greater energy savings.

Traditional storage tank water heaters loose temperature as hot water is used. As hot water leaves the tank, cold water (city water) enters the tank and reduces the stored tank heater temperature eventually running out at high peak hot water demand time. As shown in NO BOOSTER diagram to the left.

With an ECOSMART tankless water heater installed as shown in ECOSMART BOOSTER diagram to the right before the city water enters the tank heater it flows through the booster and supplies it into the tank heater pre heated thereby extending the hot water supply and reducing stand by heat loss.
